Lepto is far more prevalent in tropical wet climates than in your home country, and the bacterial strains circulating in Indonesia may not be fully covered by the vaccine your dog received before the move.

Why Imported Dogs Are More Vulnerable in Jakarta

Three factors stack up against dogs newly relocated to Jakarta:

• Vaccine strain mismatch. Lepto is caused by various serogroups of Leptospira interrogans. The vaccine your dog received in Singapore (typically L2 / bivalent — Canicola + Icterohaemorrhagiae) or the US (often L4 — adds Grippotyphosa + Pomona) doesn't always cover the serogroups circulating in Indonesia, where Bratislava and Grippotyphosa are common alongside Icterohaemorrhagiae. Tetravalent L4 vaccine (Nobivac L4 by MSD) is the gold standard in Jakarta.
